The collaboration song, for as long as I can remember, has always been one of the more interesting aspects of music to me. I’ve always been compelled to create this playlist because often times, it feels these collaborations exist in their own vacuum.
This year, Collaboration is the smallest playlist among the eight. But even though it lacks the number of songs, there really are some wonderful gems.
Bruce Hornsby and Danielle Haim’s “Days Ahead” was an instant love to me and continued to trickle it’s way up to the Top Spot. Perhaps it’s my wife and I’s continued story of love and the everyday grind of parenthood, but its sincere lyrical composition and harmonies just couldn’t be surpassed.
As a genre, rap always has a plethora of collaborations. While I balked on sooooo much rap this year (I promise I continue to try), there were some particularly special moments. Within my top 10 exists contributions from Danger Mouse and Black Thought; DJ Premier and Nas; The Musalini and 9th Wonder; Benny The Butcher and J. Cole; and Kendrick Lamar and Taylour Paige.
I hope anyone who takes a listen to this playlist appreciates the unique artistry of collaborations and as always, finds some new songs to jam out to. Bye!!!!!!
