Vampire Weekend Shows Us The Almighty Above Us; English Teacher Vies for AOTY Contention; BIG|BRAVE Are As Heavy As Ever; and Shards Grant Us A Religious Experience of Sorts

Taylor Swift’s monolithic presence of the music and entertainment world tends to shift all attention away from the rest of the New Music World. While this is very much the case across the internet, “The Tortured Poet’s Department” was not my AOTM in my 1+ Million Listeners category. Nor do I think it will be a Top 10 album by year’s end.
I start this reflective thought process here because it shows how much great music there is beyond the stratospheric artists who exist beyond any measurable comparisons to every other artist/bands. While I still very much enjoyed TTPD and there is not shortage of attention given to it, April felt quiet and draws back from what was an exciting March.
Vampire Weekend’s “Only God Was Above Us” is an AOTY contender and an easy favorite of mine for April. It is very rare for an Indie/Alternative band to command such a presence these days, so to see such critical praise was heartwarming.
English Teacher’s “This Could Be Texas,” which falls under my Below Radar category, is another AOTY contender. Alongside Vampire Weekend, so much of my personal listening has bounced between these two albums. From the frenetic “Nearly Daffodils” to the quirky heartbreak of “Sideboob,” English Teacher delivers with such depth that I can’t help but be so excited for their future.
I’m off to Listen to Duo Lipa and hopefully an amazing May!!!
