Caroline Polachek Finally Welcomes Us To Her Island; Young Fathers Have Us Grooving; and Anna B Savage Leads an all-time great slate of Hidden Gem albums

Caroline Polachek’s “Bunny Is A Rider” was Pitchfork Song of the Year… in 2021!!!!

In 2023, the immaculate singer-songwriter has perhaps created a Top 10 Album of the year with “Desire, I Want To Turn Into You.” I think many people were anticipating this release to be stellar and after her debut of “Pang!” I honestly feel like we’re seeing the beginning of one of the most inspired catalogs OF ALL TIME!!!!

This month kicked off with Young Fathers “Heavy Heavy,” this wonderous dance album infused with so many cultural influences. While easily a “Love” on my end, it was rather shocking to me that it was the only Below Radar release which caught my eye.

Whereas Below Radar albums were very short to come by, this was easily one of the best Hidden Gem months since I began Playlist Odyssey. Led by one of my favorite artists, London singer-songwriter Anna B Savage with “InFLUX”; February also delivered with such marvels as: “Oh Glistening Onion, The Nighttime Is Coming” by Pearla; “nature morte” by Big BRAVE; “Land of Sleeper” by Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs; “We All Have Places That We Miss’ by Hollie Kenniff and “On Grace & Dignity” by the GOLDEN DREGS.

I’m not sure when I’ll see another month like this, but I think February has further cemented its foothold as a great month to find new music.

Bye now!!!
