I think the biggest takeaway for me to start this year, was just how much I loved “DeBÍ TiRAR Más FOToS” by Bad Bunny. After doing this for five years, I could hold a handful of Bad Bunny songs I really liked.
After this album and his cycle of advertising, not only do I have several songs I love, but I also adore the man. Considering how much time I will get to spend with this album, this could easily be a Top 10 AOTY in 2025.
Though I did not fall in “love” with The Weeknd’s latest offering, combined with Ethel Cain and FKA twigs’ albums, January felt like a substantial month for new music. Combined with the Grammy’s being concluded, it really does feel like we can collectively move on toward 2025’s landscape.
Under the surface of popular music, there exists already a substantial amount of great music from all of my self-designated levels of popularity.
Ela Minus’ wondrous “DÍA” keeps getting better with each listen, Anna B Savages’ “You & I are Earth” is a folk dreamscape and my non-vocal additions by Josefine Opsahl and Ambrose Akinmusire add such complexity to my overall sonic portrait.
Here’s to a wonderful odyssey in February!!!
