King Princess Delivers On Their Sophomore Album; Beyoncé Reinforces Her Greatness; Nick Cave Delivers His ‘Seven Psalms,’ and Kathryn Williams Is Rich In All She Has Lost
By Joshua Gutierrez - Editor
Does it not feel like the end of summer for the new music landscape?
If it is, then Beyoncé, Lizzo and King Princess perhaps left us with mainstream music to last until next year. As always, just because the biggest artists aren’t releasing, doesn’t mean there isn’t great music to be discovered.
July reinforced that.
Nick Cave, Kathryn Williams, Naima Bock and Catarina Barbieri highlight several wonderful releases in my Below Radar and Hidden Gem categories. Yes, Beyoncé’s epic “RENAISSANCE” and Lizzo’s “Special” are the upbeat dance albums have revitalized my somber tendencies… but I’m still a sad bitch and the highlighted albums above reinforce my love of the melancholy. Add the Christian artist Montell Fish’s “Jamie,” this may have been the best month for sad music.
I also want to take the time to thank everyone who checked out and liked my first What’s Your Playlist Odyssey? feature with Northern California singer-songwriter Katey Fry. This second feature was meant to come out months ago, but I needed time to really figure out New Music Discovery.
As this blog continues, I want to strive toward better content about the music I love.
Here’s to discovering great new music in August and bye!!!
