From the quiet kid looking to redefine his identity with AC/DC to creating this music blog as a father of two, this is the Playlist Odyssey of Joshua Gutierrez (me!)
… Like most kids that age, finding a sense of identity was a consuming aspect of existence. Also like most boys, I wanted something “cool” or “badass".” “Back in Black” obviously did that.
This conscientious decision propelled me toward guitar-centric music, leading to dives of heavy metal, clasic rock and indie folk later in life.
…It was through my late friend, Ryan Sherman, who got us incredibly stoned one night. As a joke, he turned on “Rainy Day Woman #12 & 35” on Dylan’s Greatest Hits.
Soon after, “Mr. Tambourine Man” came on and I was transported through those lyrics (I remember feeling every word). Soon, I fell into the cascade of his catalog.
… As a former journalist, What’s Your Playlist Odyssey? is my attempt to share the experiences my friends have with music.
I’ve always enjoyed learning other’s stories and given how many friends I’ve made through this journey, I wanted to learn their experience with music.
… Just being able to gain perspectives from the hundreds of reviewers out there is special. Some of these pages put in so much work into how they present their perspectives, it’s truly special.
